Saint Helices Star Pattern, 26" x 20", graphite and colored pencils, 1996. Artist's collection.
This Saint Helices image is here in the drawing gallery for the obvious reason that it is a drawing along with the fact that it is not really a Saint Helices version in full. It is a schematic scale rendering of the star pattern which I created for Saint Helices P3BW, and P3C (which is also in this gallery). Another reason for making this drawing was to put to rest the exact formation of the star pattern for future versions that would utilize this element. This is actually a template for the star pattern more than an aesthetically conceived drawing. No matter, it's still a beautiful drawing. In past versions, 56 and 57 for example, I would perform these calculations on the spot for each different composition. What I wanted was a template for the star pattern to speed-up the process of painting.
