Saint Helices P1C, intaglio print, 12" x 9" plate, 20" x 16" paper, ed. 60, 1995. A limited number of prints are available.

This original hand-pulled intaglio print, as well as Saint Helices P2C, P3C, and their monochrome black and white counterparts, were produced at La Guilde Graphique in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I was greatly aided in my printmaking efforts by studying the techniques of the masterful printmakers who I met there.

Creating a Saint Helices image to my liking in the medium of printmaking was a long and arduous process. It was a fortuitous process as well in that it was through my struggle with the medium that I conceived of the "radiant center" design for the Saint Helices composition. The idea came as a solution to reconcile the painterly effects of the previous versions with the color and shading effects which are unique to the process of etching/intaglio printmaking. It is questionable if I would have ever conceived of the radiant center design had I continued with the painting medium exclusively. The radiant center design also appears in Saint Helices versions P3C, P3BW, 73, and 76.
