Saint Helices 7, 10" x 8", oil on board, 1990. Artist's collection.
This is the first version wherein I utilized a pattern of stars in the upper back area to denote its location as being a space outside of the Earth's atmosphere. The upper ellipse form from the previous compositions has literally become multiple gold discs, or, halos adjacent to the edge forms. The direction of light falling on the lower-central form is now cast from beneath the form as opposed to being cast from the side as in the previous versions.
I think it is clear that in this version (and in the next two versions) that I was enchanted by the possibilities of the narrative aspect of this evolving composition.
