Saint Helices 67, 32" x 24", oil and assemblage on panel, 1995. Artist's collection.

This version was conceived as being the "model" Saint Helices composition for how I visualized the basic component structure of the idea at that specific point in time. This is, contextually speaking, a truly "sacred heart", old-fashioned oil on panel painting. Artists have been making this same type of painting for centuries.

Without question, this is one of the best paintings I have ever made. I will balance the superlative nature of that statement by pointing out the fact that this incredibly "studied" entry in the Saint Helices series came directly after the visual "hell on wheels" versions 65 and 66. I had always planned to make this "model" version with all of its exactitude of composition, color, chiaroscuro schemes, etc. After versions 65 and 66, I relished in the studied execution of this painting.
