Saint Helices 63 & 64, 24" x 18", oil, acrylic, assemblage on panel, 1995. Artist's collection.
These two versions were made by the same process as versions 61 and 62. The point of departure in creating the initial disparate compositions, however, resides in the nuance of the scale of the brushwork of disparate black and white abstract expressionist compositions which upon completion were glazed in opposing colors (red and green). The abstract expressionist composition with the smaller, tighter, brushwork was glazed with red pigment. The other abstract expressionist composition with the broader, looser brushwork was glazed with green pigment. The two compositions were then stenciled and cut in pieces and the pieces were mounted in the same fashion as versions 61 and 62. The compositions for versions 61 through 66 include an additional series of ellipses in the lower-central area.
