This version is by its nature an illustration because it was conceived with a particular function in mind. The function of this composition is to illustrate the spatial ambiguities--also known as the figure/field, or, positive/negative space switches that are formally designed as part of the Saint Helices composition. The red line navigates through all of the positive/negative space permutations of the composition. The underlying drawing of the composition is also visible at either side of the painted area.
