I began experimenting here with free-form brush strokes in the two central areas of the composition. This new direction allows me to deal with issues of pattern, texture, volume, contrast, and color, in a new light.

The next eight versions will incorporate this new direction--a direction that will ultimately lead to later versions wherein abstract expressionism is the point of departure into the Saint Helices composition (50, 58, 59, ...).
