Let Bygones Be, 42" x 24", oil and acrylic on paper, 1986. Artist's collection.
At the bottom of the composition is a passage of copper paint and thick red brush strokes which symbolizes judgment, trial by fire, or punishment (damnation). Above that is a scale which represents justice, fairness and equilibrium. The scale is rendered in perspective with the number "3" faintly stenciled next to the far bowl and the number "4" stenciled in the same manner (but larger) next to the near bowl. The use of the ascending numbers, and the rendering of the scale in perspective is to indicate the passage of time in space. Above that there is a faintly-stenciled fragment of a phrase, "let bygones...". Above that are two sets of tally marks, both with four marks each, and the marks are rendered as three-dimensional forms.
