Green Head, 22" x 16", oil on paper, 1984. Artist's collection.
This painting represents the ending phase of the blindfolded experiment. The experiment began as a method for making jarring abstract images by means of breaking free of my visual (editing) restrictions. The blindfolded method was effective in producing the powerful and spontaneous level of abstraction I desired for my work. This self-guided experiment also created an important break from my participation in academic, or, "conventional wisdom" as a rote path, or, "herd mentality" approach to my development as an artist. After this ironically practical and effective experiment I regained my sight as an ally to my conceptual level of thought as opposed to the previous state of affairs wherein common sight held court over the application and potential reach of my conceptual thought.
