Figure Fog, 42" x 24", mixed media, 1986. Artist's collection.

This imaginative figure drawing began as a field of orange pastel pigment applied evenly to a sheet of paper. I then lightly sprayed black and white spray paint over the color field to produce the fog effect. As strange as this may sound, while studying the fog formation I saw the faint suggest of a human figure. All that was left for me to do was articulate the features of the figure I was seeing. This is a very good example of the intuitive process of creating art which I was speaking about earlier. The eventual final image reveals itself through the process of applying materials in an intuitive or instinctive mode. This may sound like mystification to some but I view creative intuition and instinct as powerful facet of the artistic experience. At this period in my career I was putting my instincts and intuition at the leading edge of my creative process.
