Figure Study, 24 x 18, conte on paper, 1984. Artist's collection.
When one draws from a live model every day, the models vary from day to day, week to week, as scheduling permits. Every model has unique physical characteristics, as well as an internal radiant energy which is "personality" to some, and "spirit" to others. Certain artists have a working visual/aesthetic rapport with certain models.
This model's name was Greg. I made a lot of unacceptable figure drawings from many different models during these years. But there was something about Greg's form as a life-drawing model that assisted my drawings to a higher level--the logical/phenomenological dynamic of what I hoped to achieve in drawing arrived on the page consistently with seemingly great ease.
