Hold Still, 22" x 28", oil and acrylic on paper, 1985. Private collection.

By now the spheres have all but disappeared and have been replaced by the square shapes of the grid. I mention this here incidentally, but the importance of this alteration will become apparent in the next five paintings in this gallery.

In this painting all of the steps in the building process of the composition are apparent. The relationship between the (now) two squares is still of primary conceptual importance, however, the areas of the composition which visually assist in articulating that relationship are taking on a life of their own.
